After paying for the tattoo for Tammy I heard from her about a week and a half later. She wanted to thank me for the tattoo and said she had a surprise for me. She asked when we could get together. I told her Friday was good for me and she agreed.

When Friday arrive Tammy left a message on my machine saying she would be over around 8 pm and there was no need to put on anything special because we would be staying in.

I sat in my house and watched TV and chilled waiting for Tammy and her surprise. I made sure I didn t lock the door because Tammy likes to just walk in and come to my bedroom to see what I am doing.

I heard her come in and I just waited in the bedroom to see what she had in store for me. When she reached the top of the steps she asked me to close my eyes and get ready.

The voice on the aeroplane PA announces ten minutes to landing and Marsha watches the cabin staff set about their routine of ensuring all passengers and hand baggage are secured for landing. She can see the bright sunshine streaming in through the windows to her right and she knows that the week ahead will be full of blue skies and hot sun. Although the time to enjoy the sunshine may be limited Marsha resolves to make the best of any opportunity to steal away and take some time to herself.

Although this is strictly a business trip Marsha relishes the time away from her normal routine and her normal responsibilities. Marsha is a dentist in a busy practice and her days are jam-packed with appointments and many of her evenings are taken-up with paperwork. The trip to the annual congress offers an escape from all of that and Marsha relishes the thought that she can play truant and sneak away to the beach to tan her lovely body.

We were sitting at a glossy-topped faux mahogany table in a local bar and grill as was standard for our Girl s Night Out. We ate we drank and us single vixens made eyes at the clientele that came and went as we gabbed enthusiasticly into the night. Our married Megan were tamer though not by much: Meg was known to have a phone number or two more to show than the rest of us at the end of the night. David would be so proud.

I snapped back to reality and realized that I hadn t even heard her story. So much so I wasn t even sure what it had been about. Everyone was laughing so I laughed still not understanding why.

Through out high school everybody had their own little group of friends. Yes there was a particular group who considered themselves the coolest but for the most part it was just kids hanging around who had common interests. The guys on the basketball team would be close the heavy duty drug users were tight the smart kids usually hung out together and everybody else seemed to clump together too. Yes of course all us guys lusted after the perky cheerleaders with their tight sweaters but this story isn t about them. This story is about a girl I barely knew who was of no group and it seemed no past. I guess up to this point nobody really knew each other at all.

Like many people from our past we don t remember the whole person just a snap shot of them. With this one girl Chantelle I can only remember her in one way although the image is so striking it lies right behind my eyelids on some days.
